The Evangelism Center (Zanesville, Ohio)

We just completed two great weeks with Bro. & Sis. Potts, and the wonderful people from the Evangelism Center of Zanesville.

I really felt, before going to Zanesville, that God was sending us there to challenge and encourage this fantastic group of people.  I did not feel that this would be an enormous time of outreach, as the Lord wanted to speak to the church body.  Therefore, each night before church, we met for an hour with the leadership team and held sessions/seminars on subjects such as:  inner-church ministries; leadership structures; soul winning; retention; and assimilation.

Throughout the two weeks, we were privileged to see many people baptized, and many receive the gift of the Holy Ghost! I wish I could explain the depth of God’s presence that settled into that sanctuary during the final three services.  Almost breath-taking!

On Monday of our second week together, the jail ministry team allowed me to tag along with them and speak to the large class of inmates in the county jail.  I briefly shared with them a portion of my life’s testimony, and encouraged them to turn their entire life over to the Lord.

These men had already seen the Lifeline DVD, and they were excited about being set free from drug addictions, alcoholism, and a multitude of other vices.  Immediately after our time together, one inmate looked me in the eyes and said that he would see me in church on Friday night.  He further explained that Monday night was his final night in jail, and that he was ready to live for God.

About ten minutes into the message on Friday night, I noticed this man crying and heading for the altar.  This was the same man that I met in jail earlier that week.  After a brief time of crying out to God, Greg received the Holy Ghost!

During, the final three services, he sat on the front row, and worshipped the Lord unashamedly! How awesome!

Each night, we had a great crowd of people, as several of the local churches came to show their support of this revival.  The area churches have been kind to one another, and it has been great to see some unity in the body of Christ!

Saturday night, at least two people received a physical healing, two men were delivered from smoking cigarettes, and one claimed deliverance from the heaviness of depression.  There was a tremendous amount of liberty that was felt during our final weekend in Zanesville.

In our photo section, we will include some incredible pictures from the services.  Take a moment and check them out!

Julie and I would like to say that we truly enjoyed our time with the Christians that attend the Evangelism Center!  The Potts’ treated us like royalty, and we fell in love with this family!  This pastor and his wife, were outstanding in their willingness to make us feel special!

A sweet couple in the church blessed us financially, on our final night together.  It is so nice to know that people are still sensitive to God, as well as to the needs of ministry.  We have a long trip back to Tennessee, and this will more than take are of our traveling expenses! Wow!

Finally, we want the Evangelism Center to know that we believe in you, and we look forward to another fantastic time together, in 2008!  Until then, keep it going! We love you!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

During this special time of the year, we want to take a moment and express how thankful we are for our friends and family members.  We have been blessed by your kind words of encouragement, prayers, and love.  Thanks for all that you do………..

Happy Thanksgiving!

What do you expect?

In his book, Pygmalion in the Classroom,Dr. Robert Rosenthal of UCLA tells of many instances where teachers were led to believe that certain students were of significant intellect. They were told that these students were expected to make a quantum leap in academic performance during that school year.

The result: the teachers approached their school year with an expectation that each of these students would perform at an elevated level, when compared to their peers.  And without exception, each student performed just as expected.

The theory was this: when teachers are led to expect better intellectual performance from  their students, they tend to get it.

The Law of Expectations tells us that whatever one expects, with confidence, often becomes a reality/self-fulfilling prophecy. I think it is safe to say that our expectations play a key role in our own outcomes.  I believe that our expectations also have a remarkable effect on the people around us. What we expect from others determines our attitude toward them (more than any other factor). In turn, the people around us tend to reflect our attitudes right back at us - whether the expectations and attitudes are positive or negative.

Research every major biblical character.  Notice what retains their attention.  Dissect each story and each conversation contained in that story, and attempt to predict the outcome based upon that person’s “expressed expectations.”

You will discover that their expectations played a pivotal role in the outcome of their predicament.  How encouraging it is to know that regardless of my current set of circumstances, it is not the will of the enemy that has the final say.  Rather, it is my “expectation”  that is the greatest predictor of my outcome! (Please consider the strong connection between our expectations and our faith).  Remember, faith is the substance of things “hoped” for (or expected)……

Take a moment to think about your own expectations - of yourself and those around you….Now, allow me to ask you a question, “What do you expect?”

Thoughts on Soul Winning

I am convinced that a passion for reaching the lost must be the central focus in our day to day lives! We cannot afford to set soul winning aside, while we attend one church service after another! We must reach our cities and this world with the message of Jesus Christ!

Showing up to church, and enjoying the great singing and preaching is not enough. There is no greater satisfaction than talking to people about the love of Jesus Christ!

I have discovered that soul winning involves far more than simply inviting someone to church. I believe that soul winning is a lost art….a lost burden. For too long, we have placed on pedestals the men that have learned to preach. Now, please don’t misunderstand this point. We must always strive to better ourselves in every area of life, including preaching. However, Solomon’s statement did not say, “He that preacheth well is wise.” He did not say, “He that has mastered the art of communication is wise.” He said, “He that winneth souls is wise.”

It is time that every Christian return to the initial commandment that Jesus Christ gave to His disciples……it’s time to become fishers of men! To be totally transparent, I question the logic of just showing up to one church service after the next, and never winning a soul!

Of the many things that I have learned while evangelizing, one thing stands out…the people who are not pregnant with promise…the people who are not carrying a miracle in their spiritual womb…the one’s who don’t win souls, are the “only” ones that question, critique, and cast stones.

If you have been hindered by pressure placed on you by others, or you have been paralyzed by the spirit of fear. Please don’t allow anyone or anything to keep you from evangelizing your city!

READY FOR A REVOLUTIONARY REVIVAL? LET US HELP YOU MAKE IT HAPPEN!

As God continues to birth within us, a “deep desire/burden”  to win souls, He is also equipping us with ”much-needed” insight into the areas of retention and assimilation of each guest.

Although modern day christianity has become content with a 5:100 ratio (that’s 5 return visitors per 100), can I suggest that this is not the will of God!  I am convinced that we will be held accountable for every soul that we come into contact with.  Therefore, let us make every effort to ensure that each guest is retained!

If you are interested in having a revolutionary revival in your church and community, please  contact us as soon as possible.  Our schedule for 2008 is quickly being filled.

Let “Us” help “You” revolutionize your outreach endeavors!

IMPACT IRONTON CONTINUES!

On Wednesday night, we witnessed a tremendous visitation of God’s presence. Two more received the Holy Ghost! One lady was away from God for over twenty years. She and her girls have been using drugs together for a long time (intravenously). The two daughters came for the first time on Sunday morning. Both were baptized, and received an incredible touch from God, they returned that night with smiles and a new lease on life.

They were very open about their drug use, and stated that they really wished their mother would come to church “one time!” However, they weren’t confident that she would even be open to the suggestion, after all these years.

On Wednesday night, that happened! Momma came, and received the Holy Ghost during the preaching! What a beautiful sight it was to see momma and her two girls holding one another, and being touched by God!

We also saw our new friend, Donny, receive the Holy Ghost and be baptized. He is a sweet guy, who has made a tremendous impact on this church throughout this week. He is 27 years old, and has some limitations. But, he is so sensitive to God. In fact, Donny rode with us to Jackson, Ohio on Friday to a sectional youth rally that I had the privilege of preaching. (He sung Christian songs all the way there, and kept everyone entertained).

Sunday morning: Today was fantastic! Bro. Austin preached the morning service, and I conducted the altar service. Three more ladies were baptized!!!

Pastor Austin is an outstanding preacher, and the people of this community love him. His wife is a talented musician and singer, as well as one of the sweetest ladies! We think highly of these people, and believe they are doing a great work here in Ironton, Ohio. (By the way, their kids are awesome, also). What’s up Blake, Hannah, and Isabella?

Sunday Night: The sanctuary was filled to capacity, and people were sitting in the foyer! During the altar service, Loretta received the baptism of the Holy Ghost! We met her husband, Phil, in a gas station parking lot around 1 A.M. two weeks ago. This entire family has been baptized, and they have been actively working in the church ever since.

Two of the local politicians were in service tonight. These are kind men who have a heart for God, and they care about their community. I believe that God is making a close connection with these two men for a reason. The plan of God for this church is very large, and I am so thankful that these great people have allowed me and my wife to jump on board and become part of the team.

The youth group is large and in charge! They are on fire for God, and they are bringing an enormous amount of guests each service. I really believe that they can become one of the largest youth groups in Ohio within the next month.

“TAKE THAT, DEVIL!!!”

What “on earth” are you doing?

Ask yourself the question, What on earth are you doing? What consumes your thoughts, and saturates your emotions? What will your legacy be? How will people remember you, and for what will people remember you?”

During one of our late-night trips to downtown Ironton, we stopped by a funeral home. The owner was sitting inside the foyer, with the doors open. A group of us walked inside and began talking with him. After looking at each casket, and  thinking about the short time we have in this life, I began to envision what it would be like to be dead.

As morbid as it may seem, I asked if there was a casket that I could lay down in, and experience what is was like. He quickly agreed, and much to my surprise, I was laying in a casket on the showroom floor. As I laid there for what seemed to be a long time, I thought of many things. And the overwhelming thought that flooded my emotions was, “What on earth are you doing with your life?”

Are you making the most of the time you have been awarded? Are you really reaching for souls like you preach about? How big of an impact are you having in society? How many have you witnessed to this week, this month, this year? How much time have you invested in the lives of others?

I asked the group to video tape this experience, so that I could periodically look back at this time, and remember that “one day,” my body will become lifeless, and the only thing that I will leave behind are memories.

I am sure that not everyone will remember me the same way. However, I want to make sure that those that know me, remember me as passionate about the things of God, about soul winning, about my beautiful wife, and the friends that I have enjoyed throughout my years on earth!

One final statement, “The decision to become a fisherman is instantaneous… The art of catching fish is a process.”
