We had a great time at General Conference this year. We stayed at the Westin Harbor Island. The room had a fantastic water view, and the bed was incredibly comfortable.
The Lifeline DVD received a warm reception from many states. We visited with a multitude of pastors, lay ministers, and other wonderful people that were currently involved in or looking forward to, working with the chemically dependent population.
A FEW EVENTS OF THE WEEK
*Friday night, after the service in the Forum, we set out for some street evangelism.
Prior to getting on Bro. Maddix’s van, I noticed a black male heading in our direction. I sensed that he was open and ready to hear about the Lord. Bro. Tim Downs and I began speaking with him about Jesus Christ, and letting him know that the Lord knew his situation, and that even though it appeared as if society had turned its back on him, God never would!
I began to talk to him about water baptism in the name of Jesus Christ, and the gift of the Holy Ghost. And, within five minutes, James was ready to be baptized! One problem: there was no water.
After searching the area, we concluded that our only hope would be utilizing a room at the Marriott Hotel, and baptizing James in a bathtub. We quickly located a group of Pentecostal girls that temporarily gave us liberty to use their bathroom as a life changing facility for this man. I had the wonderful privilege of baptizing James in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of his sins.
I believe we have a God given mandate to reach the lost. To go into all the world, and preach this powerful gospel to every creature. And if street evangelism makes some uncomfortable, and if it rubs some the wrong way, then so be it! We have a world to reach, and I want to do everything I can to see it happen!
Next, we got on the bus, and headed for Ybor City. What an incredibly sensual and savage city. Known best for its historic sites, Ybor City, may appear to be a nice place to visit and even enjoy a pleasant night out on the town. However, there are a couple segments of the downtown area that are saturated with all kinds of evil. In light of that statement, What better place to reach lost souls?
After marching around the streets for some time, and praying and praising God amongst all the nastiness of the night…. We headed for one particular street that was inundated with clubs and bars. While passing out tracts for Sunday night’s service, and praying for others, Bro. Downs and I noticed a big guy standing in the doorway of one of the bars.
This guy was intoxicated, and very loud. Watching the situation closely, I noticed this same guy touching one of our young ladies in an inappropriate manner, and yelling out incredibly offensive obscenities, I quickly intervened and asked the guy to refrain from touching anyone of us. Then, myself and one other young man from our group began to talk to this guy about the love of God. We told him that all we were doing is reaching out to the people of this town, and letting them know that there was something better than the nightclub scene.
Within a few minutes of talking to him about repentance, this guy pours his beer out on the ground, and says, “Let’s do it right here!” Right there in front of the bar, and in front of all his friends, he began to pour his heart out to God in repentance.
After a time of repentance, we began to talk to him about water baptism in the name of Jesus. Explaining the significance of the name of Jesus, and why we baptize in that name, he quickly responded, “My daddy wouldn’t have it any other way!” Asking him what that meant, he replied, “My dad is a Pentecostal.”
We escorted him to the horse trough that we had full of water and ready to be used. And, to top it all off, at approximately 2:15 AM, after being baptized, Austin received the baptism of the Holy Ghost on the side street of that downtown city.

Saturday night, we hung out with Tim and Holly Downs. These guys are real soul winners. I appreciate their burden for souls, as well as their friendship. Tim and I stayed up until after 6AM, talking about soul winning and reaching our cities. Later that morning, we attended church in St. Pete, Florida, where Matt Maddix pastors.
Sunday night, we attended the service at the forum, and witnessed an incredible out pouring of the Holy Ghost. What an exciting time to be a part of the Kingdom of God.
After service, we headed for the Cheesecake Factory. After a busy week, we wanted to relax with friends and enjoy the last night in Tampa.
Shortly after leaving the restaurant, we began to center our focus back on souls. A lady drove passed us and Tim Downs began to talk with her about the Lord. Moved by his sincerity, this lady expressed her love for God, and said that she had made some huge changes in her life over the last two years.
We all prayed with her, and introduced her to Bro. Maddix. She was open and very receptive, and said that she would be interested in a Bible Study.
Before leaving the parking lot, Tim and I began to watch the people go in and out of the club that was located a couple of doors down from the restaurant. Convinced that these people were looking for something that they had yet to find, we began to speak to the people as they walked through the parking lot.
Two of the men exited the club and headed for the parking lot. These were extraordinarily large men, and it wasn’t difficult assuming that they were football players. We thought how great it would be to witness to these men.
As we began talking to them about the Lord, one of the men said that he was the team’s ministry leader. Unsure as to what team they played for, I introduced myself to one of the men, and he said his name was, “Jeremy Trueblood.” To most, this name may not ring a bell. And to be quite honest, a day earlier, and I wouldn’t have recognized the name, either. Here’s the neat part of the story.
Prior to service that night, I walked by a television in the Westin Hotel. And as I glanced at the television, I noticed one name that caught my attention was, “Trueblood.” He is the starting right tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers! Little did I know, that within just a few hours, I would meet Jeremy Trueblood, and be speaking to him about the Lord!
There are no coincidences with God!
